29.10.13 HMRC commences automatic cancellation of inactive PAYE schemes

29 October 2013

Effective from 28th October, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will automatically close the PAYE scheme of employers who have not paid any employees or subcontractors for a period longer than 120 days.

HMRC will issue letter RTI206 to employers to advise about closure of their PAYE scheme.  This is an advance which has been enabled by the advent of real time information reporting (RTI) and means that dormant PAYE schemes will be closed down much sooner than they otherwise would have been, reducing administrative burden for both HMRC and employers.
