Good Work Plan Phase Two: Consultation – Proposals to Support Families

04 September 2019

Government's second phase of the Good Work Plan (GWP) is looking at supporting parents in balancing their work and family life.  The key proposals relate to:

  1. reforming the current system of family-related leave and pay - this sets out  high level options for reforming existing entitlements which could help parents to balance the gender division of parental leave.
  2. a new right to neonatal leave and pay – this looks at proposals for a new leave and pay entitlement for parents of babies that require neonatal care after birth; and
  3. greater transparency by employers of flexible working and family-related leave and pay policies –  this looks at whether employers should have a duty to consider if a job can be done flexibly and make that clear when advertising a role. It also considers options for requiring large employers (those with 250 or more employees) to publish their family related leave and pay and flexible working policies.

Government believes there should be greater transparency when it comes to employers’ family-friendly policies and if implemented, these proposals could have a significant impact for employment law and your business.

It is important you have your say before the deadlines of 11 October 2019 and 29 November 2019.   View a copy of the proposals here or get in touch if you wish to discuss this or any of the other GWP news topics!
