CJRS guidance updated for September claims

11 August 2021

HMRC have updated their guidance to confirm that claims for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (‘CJRS’) made in September must be submitted by 14 October 2021 and amended by 28 October 2021 (if necessary).

The guidance also confirms that the closing date for CJRS is 30 September 2021. This means that when the CJRS scheme closes, employers must decide to either:

  • bring their employees back to work on their normal hours
  • reduce their employees’ hours (following consultation)
  • terminate their employment (normal redundancy rules apply to furloughed employees)

Aspire Comment:

With the closing date for the CJRS looming, many employers will be anxious about the consequences on their business once the support ends.

CJRS claims are likely to be scrutinised by HMRC as part of future PAYE investigations.  Prevention is better than cure.  We can review your current practices in relation to all aspects of a PAYE investigation before you get that knock at the door.  Please get in touch with one of our advisors on 0121 445 6178 or email enquire@aspirepartnership.co.uk for a chat to see how we can support you and your business.
